Chris serves as the development director for the Institute on the Environment, helping friends (individuals, corporations and foundations) accomplish their philanthropic goals that intersect with the mission and goals of IonE.
Chris is an 18-year development veteran at his alma mater, serving as director of annual giving and research, major gifts officer and chief development officer at the Carlson School of Management for 15 years. He followed that with a three-year opportunity at the University of Minnesota Foundation as a senior director of development, individual giving for the transformation giving team, including the last year where he worked specifically with Global Environmental Initiatives.
A 1981 graduate of the U's College of Liberal Arts, Chris has had extensive experience in relationship building and management over the years, working for his Kappa Sigma Fraternity as a chapter consultant in what he refers to as a "domestic Peace Corps job," associate director for chapter programs, associate director for constituent societies, and director of special programs at the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. After those years, he was director of fund development and public affairs for the Community Development Corporation for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, now known as CommonBond Communities.
His first job is to his family, married to wife Ruth (a U alum) for 26 years, proud father of two sons, one an U alum and other currently pursuing a degree at the U. He enjoys serving in leadership positions at his parish and on the board of The A-List and coaching baseball.
