Jan Gerstenberger is director of partnerships and development for the Institute on the Environment. As such, she is responsible for developing partnerships with the private sector, non-governmental organizations, foundations and individuals, and for connecting various stakeholders in meaningful ways to IonE’s programs and initiatives. Jan joined the Institute on the Environment in May 2013.
Jan was most recently director of foundation giving at the University of Minnesota Foundation, where she managed relationships with local and national foundations in support of University-wide initiatives such as energy and the environment, food safety and security, and K–3 literacy. Notably, she worked to develop and facilitate a three-year, multi-stakeholder public/private partnership focused on literacy. Prior to joining the University, Jan was director of consumer and member communications for Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, Calif. She also has held various positions in development and marketing communications in science- and health-related organizations.
She holds a B.A. in literature and art history from the University of Minnesota.
When she’s not at work, Jan enjoys spending time at her home in St. Paul with her husband, daughter and two dogs, and figuring out ways to eke the most production out of her backyard garden.
