Justin Andrew Johnson is a postdoctoral research fellow with The Natural Capital Project. Justin earned a Ph.D. in applied economics from the University of Minnesota in 2014. His research explores how ecosystem services affect economic systems and vice versa. Justin develops mathematical models to estimate the value of ecosystem services and then programs software applications stakeholders can use to inform decisions. Justin also researches food security, climate change, land use change modeling and agricultural management in developing countries, along with other topics in economics. He received his B.A. at St. Olaf College and studied environmental science at Tsinghua University, Beijing, on a Fulbright Scholarship. In his spare time, Justin is an avid mountain biker, rock climber and board game designer.
