Global Water Initiative

Field and Crop Irrigation System

People use water in many ways: to quench our thirst, grow crops, make consumer and industrial products, extract energy, enhance recreation and protect wildlife, just to name a few. The Institute on the Environment’s Global Water Initiative is helping ensure a safe, sufficient supply of water worldwide by evaluating water sustainability and building tools to help water managers make better decisions. Specific projects include mapping points of water use and availability around the world, illustrating potential impacts of changes in supply and demand, and evaluating trade-offs among different uses.
