In the fall of 2017 Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, wiping out the electric grid and plunging 3 million people into the worst blackout in US history.  Roughly 3,000 people died in the months after the storm and thousands lived in the dark for nearly a year.  How could this happen?

Join us for a film screening and conversation with filmmaker Sandy Smith-Nonini and Dr. Cecilio Ortiz García, from the National Institute of Energy and Island Sustainability at the University of Puerto Rico about the root causes behind the longest blackout in U.S. history.
