Statistics and Data Science for Earth Systems

The annual conference of the Institute for Research In Statistics and its Applications (IRSA) will be held on May 3-5, 2018 at the University of Minensota. This year, the theme is “Statistics and Data Science for Earth Systems”. This conference will include the annual Buehler-Martin lectures of the School of Statistics, IRSA Distinguished Plenary lectures, several invited talks, poster presentations and short courses. As with most of the activities of IRSA, this conference focuses on inter-disciplinary research and collaboration: between Statistics and Data Science on one end and Earth Systems Sciences on the other.

 

Director of the Institute on the Environment, Jessica Hellmann, will be speaking at the event on “Surviving and thriving in an era of climate change”.

“One of the greatest challenges confronting humanity is human-caused climate change. We see the effects of changing climate on human and natural systems already, and the global economy is finding its way to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in fits and starts. IonE’s involvement continues at the conference with talks led by Senior Scientist, Deepak Ray and GIS Scientist, Peder Engstrom, with Global Landscapes Initiative. Along with Erik Shook, IonE Associate, Department of Geography, Environment and Society.
