About the Talk Climate Gathering:

Over the course of three days, Talk Climate Gathering participants will engage in workshops designed to help cultivate an understanding of the importance and power of climate stories, guide participants through the creation of their own narratives, and find creative ways to express and share their stories to create change. The third day will feature a story slam, in which participants will have the opportunity to share the stories they wrote throughout the Gathering.

About the Speakers:

Diamond Spratling: Diamond Spratling, MPH (she/her) is an award-winning environmental justice activist, storyteller, and public speaker. In 2019, she founded Girl + Environment, the national non-profit organization designed to educate, engage, and empower Black and Brown girls, women, and non-binary folx to stand up for environmental justice in their own neighborhoods. Diamond’s leadership in environmental justice and beyond is driven by her own lived experiences in Detroit as well as the motivation to dismantle health, racial, and environmental inequities in other Black and Brown communities alike.

Stéphanie Heckman: Stéphanie Heckman works internationally as a visual practitioner with many different organizations to help them tell their stories and make sense of complex content in a visual way. Often in the role of graphic recorder, she visually summarizes collective conversations at events and conferences in real-time to help clarify and amplify the essence, and to make that essence accessible to a wider audience. She prioritizes supporting organizations working on climate action in this way, including among many other clients the UN Climate Secretariat. In November Stéphanie attended COP27 (accredited as part of the Climate Generation delegation) in the capacity of ‘visual storyteller’, working with the UN Climate Secretariat, Climate Generation and other organizations to visually document several events and stories during the COP.

The Talk Climate Gathering registration is available on a sliding scale. We are offering tiered attendee costs in order to live into our values of equity and partnership. Please register in the spirit of offering what you can; if you are able to register at a higher level, know that you are supporting participation of youth and frontline community members.
