The Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota selected three projects through its Discovery Grant program for FY 2013.
The Nutrition Network project provides support for a global network of research focused on nutrients and herbivores in grasslands. It also is exploring opportunities to work with other ecological experimental networks to coordinate and create opportunities for collaboration and synergy across initiatives. More info
Global Spotlight is the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance’s biennial focus on a region of the world and a pressing global issue. The initiative comes from task force recommendations as part of the University’s strategic positioning. Its current focus on food security is supported by a partnership among the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change, the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance, the Institute on the Environment, and the Office of the Vice President for Research. This collaboration will foster interdisciplinary approaches to global food security in connection with social justice. More info
Promoting German & European Studies in North America
This collaboration with the Center for German & European Studies will host a Renewable Energy Policy workshop will bring together social scientists, humanities scholars, technologists and policy makers to extend the dialogue on Germany’s new energy policy and its possible lessons for the United States. It will also help coordinate Sustainability Across the Disciplines, a set of three complementary courses across different colleges, aligning meeting schedules to allow students to have direct contact with each other and to learn together.
