Final Plan: July 2007-June 2008

  • Develop long-term conservation and preservation goals and strategies
  • Seek input from informed citizens
  • Analyze the costs and benefits of a variety of implementation strategies
  • Define benchmarks to evaluate progress
  • Prioritize activities needed to implement the strategies

The SCPP team will give a public presentation before the LCCMR on its assessment and recommendations from 8:45-11:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008.

Preliminary Plan

The Preliminary Plan was delivered to the LCCMR on July 17, 2007. The primary objective of the Preliminary Plan was to provide the LCCMR with an update on overall progress, and to present preliminary conclusions that would help inform the second phase of the project. The team also presented the LCCMR with preliminary findings that would inform their current year’s request for proposal.

Six teams carried out research for the Statewide Conservation and Preservation Plan. Each team focused on a major category of Minnesota’s natural resources: Land, Air, Water, Fish, Wildlife or Outdoor Recreation.

The Preliminary Plan development process included the following steps:

    1. Gathering and synthesizing existing data
        • Identify, review and summarize existing data and studies related to the status of each resource category;
        • Identify cross-category issues and drivers of change;
        • Identify and map baseline and current resource conditions.
    2. Review and analyze existing plans and policies
        • Identify, review and summarize existing data and studies related to the status of each resource category;
        • Identify cross-category issues.
    3. Identify gaps and deficiencies in data, plans and policies
    4. Highlight key issues for each natural resource category
    5. Make recommendations for investigating these key issues

 


Proposal

On December 20, 2006, the LCCMR recommended the proposal from the University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment/Bonestroo/DSU and CR Planning.
