Jennifer Schmitt (she/her) is a Senior Research Scientist in Sustainability at the Institute on the Environment, University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on tracing environmental impacts through agricultural supply chains, understanding systems of food recovery and food waste, and circulating byproducts back into production systems. Jennifer leads our Food System Supply-Chain Sustainability (FoodS3) research that works with consumer facing companies to help them understand their supply chain environmental impacts. Through all her projects, Jennifer’s focus is on external partnerships, teamwork, and impact. Jennifer has a Ph.D. in conservation biology and M.S. in applied economics from the University of Minnesota and a B.S. in biology and international relations from Beloit College.
