Orli Handmaker

Orli’s work is driven by her desire to find solutions that lie at the crossroads of agriculture and conservation. More specifically, she is interested in how the coupling of economic models with ecological understanding can make sustainable changes appealing to stakeholders and decision-makers around the globe. In her role as a researcher with Natural Capital Project, Orli supported a variety of projects that take such an interdisciplinary approach to protecting our planet and its resources, and she more recently enrolled as a graduate student in Minnesota’s interdisciplinary Natural Resources Science and Management program, where she will continue to support ecosystem services research and further explore her academic interests in these topics. Before joining the Natural Capital Project, Orli worked in international development, focusing on agriculture, food security and Latin America. She earned her B.A. in economics and Spanish from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
