Peder Engstrom is a GIS Scientist with the Global Landscapes Initiative. Peder specializes in geographic information science (GIS), data visualization, and external engagement. He works to help support the Global Landscapes Initiative’s work with business, NGO, and governments to help identify solutions and insights for more sustainable agricultural systems using GLI data. Peder also created and operatesEarthStat.org, which serves spatial data related to agriculture and the environment.
Peder helps to further GLI’s mission of engaging with public and private stakeholders beyond the University by forming collaborations with business, NGOs, and government that help to identify risks, opportunity, and levers in our agricultural systems in order to reduce the environmental impacts of food production while identifying ways to increase production in a sustainable way. Peder has worked with a diverse set of stakeholders, including the Mosaic Company, General Mills, Cargill, Kellogg’s, Unilever, PepsiCo, The Moore Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, the Inter-American Development Bank, UN Environment Programme, and many others.
Research interests include spatial data development, effective data and map design and visualization, crop species diversity, and bridging spatial scales, from the field to the globe.
