U.S. Senator Tina Smith has been a national leader in the effort to expand the nation’s use of clean energy. In 2018, she successfully championed clean and renewable energy provisions that were signed into law as part of the 2018 Farm Bill. This year, she has pushed to expand the nation’s energy storage capabilities, and to create a federal clean energy standard to put the U.S. electric grid on a path to net-zero carbon emissions. Because of her work, she was named to the Senate Democrat’s Special Committee on the Climate Crisis, where she will continue her work to make clean energy a top national priority.
