Community Environmental Justice Expo Copy

The IonE Undergraduate Leaders invite you to the Community Environmental Justice Expo on Friday, April 21st from Noon to 3 pm

Purpose 

The intent of this event is to connect university students with community members and organizations within the greater Twin Cities area focused on environmental justice and climate action. The expo is open to the general public and will be hosted in the Mondale Commons at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs on the University of Minnesota campus on Friday, April 21st from 12-3pm (directions here). This is one of multiple events in the UMN Green Summit aimed at building community-university relationships for environmental justice. 

Who we are 

The organizing group are a team of community members and students from the University of Minnesota and Macalester College working in collaboration with Project Sweetie Pie, the Institute on the Environment (IonE) Undergraduate Leaders Program, and BF50 Indigenous Health to support the efforts of individuals and organizations within the community to achieve justice in the climate, food, and economics. 

Schedule (tentative)

11:00 am – Tabling Organizations Check-In and Set-Up

  • Welcome by UMN IonE Students and Land Acknowledgement by Indigenous POC
  • Tabling organizations are encouraged to visit other tables
  • 11:30 am-12:00pm – Light food and refreshments served for presenters/tabling organizations only

12:00 pm – Event opens for general public

  • Spoken Word Artist 1  (Lupe Castillo, Community Activist & UMN Alum)
  • Guest Speaker 1 (Michael Chaney, Project Sweetie Pie)

1:00 pm – Dance Performance 

  • Guest Speaker 2 (UMN Student, TBA)

2:00 pm – Round table hosted by Event Partners & IonE Undergraduate Leaders

  • Spoken Word Artist 2 (Brandyn Tulloch, Community Activist)

3:00 pm – Closing

  • Closing by UMN IonE Students and Thank You by Britt
  • Presenter reflection and feedback
  • Tabling organizations are encouraged to visit other tables

Our goals for this event

We are aiming to improve university relations with the community. Our goal is to provide university students and community members with the space to make connections and initiate relationships that will support the interests of students and the missions of community organizations. We hope that participants will engage in conversations relating to the opportunities available within the greater Twin Cities community to help tackle environmental justice and climate issues.

This is a grassroots event that is being planned by our team from the ground up. We look forward to seeing you there!
