HHEI Policy Forum: Climate Policy in Economics

September 22, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

Join the Heller-Hurwics Economics Institute for the Fall Policy Forum as they examine “Climate Policy in Economics.” Attend in person or online.

Scientists agree: global warming is the result of CO2 produced by human activity, and urgent action is needed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. What isn’t clear is how this should be done in a global market economy. Fortunately, economic analysis can be used to figure out what policies have the best chance of success given economic and political realities.

In this talk Per Krusell, PhD 1992, presents recent research on the topic. Which plans of action are most cost efficient? How are different regions of the world affected by climate change itself as well as mitigation strategies? How can governments best influence the behavior of individuals and firms?

A professor at the Institute for International Economic Studies, Stockholm University, Krusell is a leading expert on climate policy. He has served as president of the European Economic Association, and was selected was for the American Economic Association’s Foreign Honorary Member award.

A reception will be held following the in-person lecture in the Carlson School atrium.
