Mairin Burgess

Mairin is a second-year student at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in the College of Liberal Arts. She is pursuing an undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Sociology of Law, Criminology, and Justice. She is passionate about social justice in the law, and is preparing for law school. Growing up in New Hampshire, she found an appreciation for the nature around her. Consequently, she noticed the stark impact that climate change has had on the weather and the composition of trees and natural water sources in her town. She brings work experience with the town recreation department, and got an intimate look at the relation between the environment and the people who interact with it. In a program such as the Institute on the Environment, she aims to create change and improve the policy in Minnesota for improving green initiatives. She also aspires to educate and inspire others to learn about sustainability and how to implement it in their own lives. In her free time, she enjoys reading, walking, and music.
