April Deinken
Background & Expertise
April Deinken is the director of administration & operations at the Institute on the Environment, where she leads financial strategy, staffing, and operational execution in support of the institute’s mission and long-term priorities. She balances resources, people and programs – translating strategy into systems, structures and results that position IonE for sustained impact and growth. Since joining IonE in 2012, Deinken has played a central role in institutional planning, portfolio oversight and organizational evolution. She brings deep experience in finance, grants and contracts management, and public-sector governance, grounded in clarity, accountability and disciplined stewardship. Her work strengthens IonE’s ability to pursue ambitious goals while maintaining long-term financial health and operational resilience.
Deinken holds a bachelor of science in social psychology and a master of public affairs from the Humphrey School, and previously served in the U.S. Air Force. Out of work, she enjoys music, reading, gardening (especially hot peppers), crafting, cold-process soap and spending time with her daughters, Penny Rayne and Phoebe Moon.
