What is the IonE at Duluth Hub?
Advancing Sustainability on Campus and in the Community
Since its founding in 2018, the IonE hub on the Duluth campus has grown steadily – more than tripling faculty affiliation with IonE and deepening connections between the University and surrounding communities. The hub brings together University of Minnesota Duluth researchers, educators and community partners to advance interdisciplinary sustainability work that is rooted in the Lake Superior region and connected to IonE’s broader statewide network.
The IonE at Duluth hub brings together more than 45 researchers, faculty, and practitioners — spanning freshwater science, ecology, geomorphology, environmental engineering, Indigenous governance, humanities, arts, education, and sustainability policy — to address the full range of environmental challenges facing the Lake Superior region and the upper Midwest.

A Community-Engaged Climate Convening
The Our Climate Futures Conference
Our Climate Futures brings together community members and University faculty, staff and students to strengthen regional networks and knowledge sharing on issues related to climate change. The conference, which has a different topical focus each year, includes workshops, art, field trips and presentations from a wide range of experts.
