Background & Expertise

Dana Hernandez leads editorial strategy at the Institute on the Environment as part of its communications team, helping guide how IonE shares stories and connects audiences with its work. As communications and editorial manager, she develops stories about the institute’s research, education and engagement work and why it matters. She is especially interested in public-interest science communication, climate justice and whose voices and perspectives are reflected in storytelling.

In collaboration with staff contributors, Hernandez oversees the development of social media and IonE’s internal community newsletter and supports communications planning for priority initiatives across the institute. She was part of the core team behind IonE’s website redesign, which launched earlier this year, and helps plan content for the University of Minnesota’s annual Speaking Science conference.

Hernandez holds a bachelor's in communication and journalism with a minor in environmental studies from the University of St. Thomas and a master's in strategic communication from the University of Minnesota.

When she’s not working, she enjoys reading, kayaking and walking around Lake of the Isles with her two dogs.
