Aaron Hanson

Background & Expertise
Aaron Hanson works at the Institute on the Environment as the energy program specialist in the Learning & Development team. Hanson has a background in construction, finance and building energy modeling. In graduate school, he studied the policy intersection of high-performance and affordable housing, and researched what makes cities sustainable across the U.S., India and China.
In his current role, he coordinates interdisciplinary energy transition research projects to ensure that systems-thinking is incorporated into the examination of new technologies and how they are deployed. Hanson also manages IonE experiential education programs and teaches courses for the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering.
Fall 2023 IonE Mini Grants Support Many Environmental Justice-Focused Projects
Institute on the Environment Mini Grants are designed to support and spark interdisciplinary projects across the University of Minnesota system. IonE seeks to prioritize projects that include community partner collaboration to address environmental and sustainability issues throughout Minnesota and beyond.
