Background and Expertise
Holly Embke, PhD, is a Research Fish Biologist with the U.S. Geological Survey’s Midwest Climate Adaptation Science Center. She is a transdisciplinary scientist who leads a research program focused on an urgent challenge: understanding and adapting to global change impacts on freshwater ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. Her research integrates fisheries ecology, quantitative modeling, participatory science, and decision analysis to reveal how aquatic ecosystems and fisheries respond to global change, and to develop adaptation strategies that build social-ecological resilience. Grounded in collaboration, Embke’s work addresses critical societal issues, including food security, resource access and Indigenous sovereignty, across the Midwest and globally to sustain connections between people, fish and freshwaters.
