Sarah Hobbie is a Regents Professor and Distinguished McKnight University Professor of Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior at the University of Minnesota. Her research explores how global change—including climate shifts, changes in nutrient cycles, and biodiversity loss—affects ecosystem processes, particularly in grasslands and forest ecotones. She also studies how urban and suburban development influence biodiversity and nutrient pollution, with a focus on urban forest resilience and human impacts on water quality in the Mississippi River watershed. She is currently the director of the Minneapolis—St. Paul Metropolitan Area Urban Long Term Ecological Research program and is also an active researcher with the Cedar Creek Long Term Ecological Research program. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
New Long Term Ecological Research Program will Explore the Urban Ecosystem
The University of Minnesota, the University of St. Thomas, the U.S. Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy, and Water Bar have received $7.1 million over six years from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to launch the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Area Urban Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) program.
