Steven Manson, PhD, combines environmental research, social science, and geographic information science to understand complex human-environment systems. As a professor in thDepartment of Geography, Environment & Society, he teaches in the areas of geographic information science and spatial analysis of human-environment systems. Much of his work centers on big human-environment data through his work on the National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS), International Historical Geographic Information System (IHGIS), Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS), and the Institute for Geospatial Understanding through an Integrative Discovery Environment.
