Tom Fisher is a professor of architecture, the faculty director of the GeoCommunities initiative, the endowed director of the Minnesota Design Center and the Dayton Hudson Chair in Urban Design. He also served as the dean of the College of Design for 19 years. One of the most published authors in the design fields – having written 12 books, more than 80 book chapters or introductions and more than 640 journal or magazine articles – he recently won the Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education and served as the Chancellor of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture’s College of Distinguished Professors. Nationally known for his work in ethics, design thinking and asset-based community development, he has led in the development of knowledge mapping, “geodesign” and biomimetics as innovation strategies.
