Investing in a Sustainable Future Through the Humanities

Environmental humanists bring cultural, historical, political and economic expertise to the complicated networks of human, animal and plant life. Their work is essential in stewarding human and nonhuman communities through this unprecedented phase on our planet.

The Environmental Humanities Initiative (EHI) bolsters environmental humanist work at the University by supporting faculty research, pedagogical experiences and community outreach and engagement. The EHI formulates broadly humanistic approaches to environmental issues that stretch across the globe.

This non-competitive project supports the EHI to continue its work and prepare for future competitive funding by aiding the development of platforms through which it publicizes EHI collaborative projects, research, events and curricular activities.

Project Goals

  • Hire a staff person to connect with EHI members across campus and update the website
  • Update the bios of members active in EHI
  • Publish stories about awardees of grants and their current work in the field of the environmental humanities
  • Update the list of University classes that teach environmental humanities-related subjects and their activities

This project was funded outside the competitive RFP process as a strategic Impact Goals investment.
