Background & Expertise
Forrest Fleischman is an associate professor of environmental policy in the Department of Forest Resources. He received his PhD in 2012 from Indiana University and taught at Texas A&M prior to coming to Minnesota. His research focuses broadly on environmental policy and governance, with a particular focus on how the use of science, administrative processes and political contestation shapes environmental outcomes, including justice and equity. Much of his recent work focuses on restoration social science: understanding the social causes and implications of ecological restoration activities. In addition to Minnesota, he has conducted research in South Asia, southern Africa and Mesoamerica. To learn more about Fleischman's work, check out his website here.

New Long Term Ecological Research Program will Explore the Urban Ecosystem
The University of Minnesota, the University of St. Thomas, the U.S. Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy, and Water Bar have received $7.1 million over six years from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to launch the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Area Urban Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) program.
