Kathryn Haglin

Background & Expertise

Kathryn Haglin, PhD, is an associate professor of political science at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She was previously a postdoctoral fellow in science communication at the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania. 

Haglin earned her PhD in political science from Texas A&M University, where she was also a predoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Science, Technology, and Public Policy (ISTPP) in the George Bush School of Government and Public Service. 

Haglin’s research examines public opinion and political behavior in American politics. In particular, she is interested in individual motivations and how motivations shape people's attitudes toward political matters. She applies this focus to a broad set of research questions related to the politics of science, conservation social science, social welfare policy, and the intersection between public opinion and political institutions. Her academic work spans a variety of fields and can be found in journals such as Political Behavior, Climatic Change, Science and Public Policy, and The American Journal of Preventative Medicine.
