Mo Ollenburger

Background & Expertise

Mo Ollenburger, PhD, studies food and farming systems, using a variety of methods to look at how agriculture fits into wider landscapes and people's’ livelihoods. She is passionate about connecting researchers with farmers and other community stakeholders to improve the relevance of research and ensure knowledge is shared with a broader community. At IonE, Ollenburger works with the Food Systems Supply-chain Sustainability (FoodS³) platform. where she works on streamlining model backend code and developing pipelines to manage and analyze inputs and outputs. She also collaborates with community partners and communications professionals to produce informative “Insight Briefs” on topics of interest for general audiences. Ollenburger has a PhD in farming systems analysis from Wageningen University, an MS in crop and soil science from Michigan State University, and a BS from Caltech. Prior to coming to IonE, she worked at the Joint Global Change Research Institute and University of Maryland in College Park, MD; and (as part of her PhD) the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in Bamako, Mali. In her free time, Ollenburger enjoys bicycling and camping, and usually has several sewing projects in progress.
