Background & Expertise

Luverne Seifert is a professional theater director, performer, educator, and ensemble-based theater maker specializing in arts-based knowledge translation, rural engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. As Co-Artistic Director of Sod House Theater and a faculty member at the University of Minnesota, he has spent more than three decades developing devised and touring performances that translate complex social, scientific and ecological systems into embodied, accessible experiences for public audiences. His work emphasizes ensemble creation, community dialogue and engagement with rural and underserved communities across Minnesota and beyond. Seifert has acted and directed nationally with organizations including South Coast Repertory, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Trinity Repertory Company, La Jolla Playhouse, ArtsEmerson and The Wilma Theater. In Minnesota, he has appeared with Guthrie Theater, Children's Theatre Company and Ten Thousand Things Theater Company. His honors include a National Fox Fellowship for distinguished achievement, a McKnight Theater Fellowship, and an Ivey Award. He has trained extensively in European clowning in Switzerland and France.
